Singer of the viral song ‘Complex’ played her first set at Kendal this year, on the Calling Out Stage.

Opening with ‘September’ from her newest EP Big Red set the tone for what was to be a heartbreakingly vulnerable 30 minute set. Track 3 of Big Red, ‘Guestlist’, followed, examining the pain felt when the person you love chooses someone else (specifically when this someone is everything you try to be but aren’t - in Katie’s case bleach blonde!).

Closing her set with the piano ballad ‘Complex’, although expected, did not disappoint. With lyrics like “I need him like water, he thinks that I’m alright” it’s impossible not to be moved (even despite the drum and bass playing outside the Calling Out Stage for the duration of Katie’s set).

With multiple moments of laughter and conversation with the crowd, including a Scottish flag exchange, it was refreshing to see an artist so clearly value and appreciate their fans and home!

Don’t worry if you missed the chance to see Katie at Kendal, she is also playing Boardmasters and Victorious Festival this year, followed by a few UK dates supporting Tommy Lefroy in September!

12 September Glasgow (Oran Mor)

14 September Manchester (Gorilla)

16 September Dublin (Whelan’s)

18 September London (The Garage)
