University of York receives £289,082 from Market Square and Kimberlow Hill

A freedom of information request has found that the University received £289,082 since August 2018

Through a Freedom of Information request, Nouse has found that the University of York has received £289,082 in rental income from Market Square and Kimberlow Hill between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2022.

At Kimberlow Hill, located next to Campus East, the University of York has received £142,582 in rental income from third parties between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2022.

The University only manages units five to nine at Kimberlow Hill, which currently consists of Nisa, Jorvik Hair, Cecil’s, Sylhety Lounge and Chutni. There were no lettings in the 2018-2019 period at Kimberlow Hill.

The University has also received £146,500 in income from Market Square in the same time period.

Apart from the Nisa at Market Square, the buildings are currently occupied by University staff and used as storage spaces.

Nouse is not aware of how the money received from rental income is spent by the University.

Nouse has approached the University for comment
