Durham win College Varsity 2019
York's most successful away College Varsity ends in narrow defeat
Another away Varsity has ended in familiar fashion, with the hosts keeping the trophy within their own postcode.
Unlike other years however, this year's event was taken down to the late hours of the evening, all the pressure being stooped on the Darts and Pool A fixtures in the Durham Students' Union thanks to a terrific effort from both the playing contingent of travelling York students, as well as the supporting cast.
At each event York had a huge presence of the sidelines, outnumbering their Durham counterparts hugely with the largest ever away turnout at a College Varsity event between York and Durham universities.
Current York Sport President Zac Sheppard spoke about the event in a reflective Facebook post, saying the "amazing York crowds and fantastic matches showcased exactly what college sport is all about" and that he was "proud to be a part of Team York today", offering thanks to those who made the journey to Durham.
The final overall score was Durham 65-46 York
Such a performance in an away College Varsity bodes well for the main university event in May when Lancaster roll through the gates of York to challenge for the Roses trophy.
