Friday kicked off with badminton and York proved they would be hard to beat this weekend with a dominant performance. The men's firsts and women's first both won convincingly bringing home eight points for the White Rose, while the men's seconds added a further two points to give York ten points overall.

The men's firsts dominated from the start taking the first five matches comfortably. The doubles pairing of Andy Henderson and Tom Dainty were particularly impressive winning all three of their matches without conceding an end. They only lost the one match throughout, thumping Lancaster 8-1.

The women were equally as impressive with a 5-4 victory and the score rather flattered their Lancaster opponents. Captain, Clare Breare, stated that she was '"very proud of the way every member of the team stepped up to the plate. It is even better to win at Roses away.'"

After the impressive performances of the men's and women's firsts, the pressure was on the men's seconds and they found themselves 3-1 down with a mountain to climb. They mounted a remarkable fight back and won the next five matches in a row to take the two points.

The men who secured the points were Stephen Hallett and Tze-Chiu Tang with a 21-8, 21-13 victory over their opponents. Captain of the seconds team, John Sinclair was delighted with the "brilliant play from the team' as well as saying that 'it was a brilliant way to end the year."

It was a great start to Friday's proceedings and men's firsts captain Baillie Watterson exclaimed, "everyone played unbelievably well, Lancaster never stood a chance, it has now been over ten years since York have lost to Lancaster."

York will be delighted with their start to Friday and will look to increase their lead with tennis, netball and indoor hockey.
